Autumn Eckman

Autumn Eckman (MFA, University of Iowa) received her classical training from the Houston Ballet Academy. She had the privilege to begin her professional career as a member of Giordano Dance Chicago where she also served as Assistant Artistic Director, Resident Choreographer and Director Giordano II. She also danced for companies Hubbard Street Dance Chicago, Luna Negra Dance Theatre, Lucky Plush Productions, Ron De Jesus Dance, State Street Ballet, and The Cambrians. Her choreographic commissions include works for State Street Ballet (Artist-In-Residence), DanceWorks Chicago, Visceral Dance Chicago, Vitacca Ballet, Chattanooga Ballet, Kit Modus, The Big Muddy Dance Co., Missouri Contemporary Ballet, Gainesville Ballet, Washington & Lee University, Stephens College, Western Michigan University, Grand Valley State University, University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point and the University of Missouri-Kansas City. Autumn is a recipient of the Georgia Sea Grant Artist Writers and Scholars Award in support of (a)shore, a dance film that explores movement, gesture and embodiment in relationship to place, displacement, and relocation within natural environments. Her choreography and research has been presented at the ADF Movies By Moves Festival, Bill Evans Somatic Dance Conference, IUGTE Conference (Austria), Women In Dance Leadership Conference, National Dance Educators Organization, Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Bates Dance Festival, Performática (Mexico), Solo Duo Dance Festival, Detroit Dance City Festival, Charlotte Dance Festival, Blackbox International Theatre & Dance Festival (Bulgaria), Men In Dance Festival, and JUNTOS Collective (Guatemala). Autumn is certified in the Giordano Jazz Dance Technique and Revolutionary Principles of Movement. She is dedicated to sharing her experience of over 25 years and has served as
master faculty for the Ballet Alliance Festival, Open Doors Dance Festival, Red Rock Dance Festival, Bates Dance Festival and the American Dance Festival. A former Instructor of Dance at Northern Illinois University and Assistant Professor of Dance at the University of Arizona, she is currently on faculty at Kennesaw State University.
